Banana Berry Bread with Granola Topping

Is there anything better than homemade banana bread?

I love that this banana bread recipe comes with a healthy twist. Its packed with nourishing anti-inflammatory and nutrient dense ingredients, and is lower in sugar than traditional banana bread.

Bake it this weekend and enjoy a slice with a cup of tea.

Banana Berry Bread with Granola Topping

A healthy banana bread with a twist – a hint of turmeric, touch of sweet berries, and a crunchy granola topping. This banana bread tastes like a warming bowl of granola oats and is perfect to slice and eat on its own, or topped with smashed avocado or a smear of butter or dollop of Greek yogurt.

Prep time:

Cook time:

    Dry ingredients:
  • 100 g / 1 cup walnuts
  • 85 g /1 cup rolled oats
  • 90 g / 2/3 cup buckwheat flour + 2 tbsp arrowroot powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp sea or rock salt

  • Wet ingredients:
  • 160 ml / 2/3 cup natural Greek yogurt
  • 80 ml / 1/3 cup Extra Virgin olive oil or grass-fed butter
  • 2 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • 4 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup (low sugar option - replace with 1-2 tbls stevia)
  • 3 large eggs
  • A large handful blueberries, frozen or fresh

  • Granola topping:
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbls Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tbls runny honey

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line a loaf tin (I find silicone the best) with baking paper
  2. Add walnuts and rolled oats to a food processor or blender and blitz quickly into a coarse flour
  3. Transfer oat and walnut flour to a large mixing bowl, and add in the remainder of the dry ingredients
  4. Add yogurt, Extra Virgin Olive Oil/butter, bananas and maple syrup to the food processor or blender and mix until smooth. Then transfer to the mixing bowl with the dry ingredients
  5. Crack the eggs in a separate bowl and beat them for about a minute before adding them to the mixture. Use a spatula to carefully fold everything until combined
  6. Pour batter into the loaf tin, scatter blueberries over the top and gently push them down
  7. In a bowl, mix the granola topping ingredients together and spread over the top of the loaf
  8. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden and cooked through (test with a skewer which should come out clean). Allow to cool before slicing.
